I would like to add my humble opinion on the 85s and the 77 as I did own
the FA85 and the M85, right now I do own the K85 and the FA77, and I
just "bought it now" an A85 at Ebay Germany. I would like to suggest
that the fact whether the M85/f2 be called a dog or not may depend on
the object distance (or magnification ratio). I think that the M lens
like the FA85 has been optimised for portrait distances. The best
pictures that I took with the M85 were all at protrait distances. Also,
in a formal resolution test that I did with both the FA77/f1.8 and the
M85/f2 at a magnification of 1:27, the M lens even showed slightly
higher resolution than the FA77. When focusing manually, the M, K and A
85s are to be preferred as they can be focused more exactly due to their
focusing rings, which must be turned twice as much as those of the FA77
and FA85 lenses. However, I believe that the M and K lenses are somewhat
more prone to flare.
