The world is beginning to take notice. We thank Vista in no small part.

Apple today reported the best quarterly revenue and earning in its history, ”surpassing $10 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time ever,” according to Steve Jobs. Announcing results for its fiscal 2009 first quarter, Apple posted record revenue of $10.17 billion and record net quarterly profit of $1.61 billion, or $1.78 per diluted share. During the quarter, Apple sold 2,524,000 Mac computers, a record 22,727,000 iPods, and 4,363,000 iPhones.

As a fellow Mac user, I celebrate with you. However, there are some unregenerate PDLMers who will never admit that anything good can emanate from Cupertino...

Heard you. I was just reporting the successful quarter that Apple just had. It brought the stock back from the dive Job's health problems sparked.

I enjoy my Mac, but would never tell anyone that they "should" get one. I just tell 'em I liked mine after an initial adjustment period.

I recommend them when asked, but don't push. I'll help them get one later, when they change their own mind.

And, frankly, I want a few people to stick with Windows because I make a lot of money cleaning up viruses 'n' spyware in the evenings and on weekends. I realize that Windows gets hit mostly because it's a bigger target, and one day we could have "issues" in OSX- land... but right now it's pretty quiet on this end of the computer world. Which suits me fine.

And.. even though I like the platform, I've got to admit that the world has its share of "Mac douchebags" who are high-and-mighty and oh-so-superior and don't do Apple any favors for their look-down-on- the-rest-of-them attitude about their choice of computer. I'm just sayi

OUCH!

If Macs ever gain the ability to run *good* games, I may consider switching. Otherwise, MacLove annoys the crap out of me.

OK with me if "Gamers" don't get Macs

(says the guy who expounds upon the virtues of Pentax ownership and the evils of Canon whenever he gets the chance)

I do both Pentax and Mac. But not too loudly. I prefer being in the minority. Wanna watch 'Grease' on my BetaMax?

I think Macs are just fine, but the widespread fanaticism associated with the brand is a huge turn-off for me. This is why I will never own an iPod, for instance. My Creative Zen works just fine, and I don't have those ubiquitous white earbuds to attract thieves.

Also, I have no problems with Vista. I think it is a fine operating system, especially once you turn off a couple of the over-zeallous security features.

Because I've been using Apple's computers and PDAs since 1978, I've never been able to figure Windows out to any more depth than to run XP on my Mac when I need to run some program that just hasn't been ported to the Mac platform. It's less useful in that regard since OS-X's UNIX base (sort of). Wanna see my Newton?

Meh - unimpressed. Looking at the Apple Store, for $999 you get:
13.3"
Intel 2.0 C2D --------- 2.16
2GB RAM ---------- 4 gig now
120Gb SATA (they even MAKE those any more???) -------------320 gig SATA II now
DVD +-RW
------------------- WiFi
------------------- Bluetooth

My $899 laptop:
17" 1920x1200
Intel 2.0 C2D
4GB RAM
Dual 320GB SATA II's
DVD +- RW
Triple Wifi
BlueTooth
SD/MMC/MStick reader
Second battery
Second charger

IF I saw those above MacBook specs on a lappie, I'd expect it to be in
the $399-499 range, as those are CRAZY lousy specs. My Wife's $349
laptop from Black Friday *2007* has better specs :) I got her an Apple
Lappie in late 2006, lasted 13mos, and croaked about a month after the
warranty expired.

They last much longer if they are placed on a pedestal and worshipped.

They wanted $450 to fix a $1299 lappie, so I got her
that $349 Compaq in November 2007, and so far, at 1/4 the price, it's
already outlasted her previous "fruittop" by a month, with no signs of
slowing down.

"Apple Tax" it's called...

However, it is an unparalleled Marketing Machine, the likes of which may
never be seen again - it really is impressive, and pure unadulterated
genius. I can surmise, by saying that if Jobs were ever to leave Fruit,
Inc., his offers should be unparalleled.
Marketing Mercenary anyone?

Tony

You out fanaticized me, Tony. Good job.

To each their own. Really!
