And sometimes the others do the judging, Cotty.

Being on the road, I remarked a column of black smoke ahead. Some time later I pull along some 5 cars, parked, plus a sixth on the ditch, flames high, lots of people around. Mind you, The fire has been on for a while, there is no one to be pulled to safety, I'm able to snap a few without concerns, right?

Fifth shot taken, arrives yet another car. Next thing I know some 50-ish guy runs at me, yelling and trying to smack me. Some dodging later, I discover his daughter was driving that car, and he vented some tons of worry and aprehension in the lowliest target available (me) instead of noticing the trio carting up the road some bits of luggage they relieved from the wreck. Turns out his daughter supposedly was rescued from the car in time and sent to a near hospital. I told him after he calmed down, that I had just arrived, after the flames were going for a while, and had no rescue to perform - at all. He still didn't like me.

Often, being innocent is not enough - one has to look innocent too.

Did you get a picture of the scene?

Nope.

I had two cameras with me, iPhone and TV news camera. I was too busy
slowing oncoming traffic at the corner (more a bend in the road, about
45 mph max) and directing traffic past the incident, and the scene
itself was unremarkable. Of course I assessed the whole thing for
newsworthiness, and decided it was not even on the meter. If I had
started snapping away at the 2 ladies in the car I would have been
failing in my duty as a member of the community to help where needed.
Had the scene been newsworthy, and as long as I was not failing in any
public duty first (like First Aid) then the TV camera would have been out.

It's a judgement call of public priorities versus professional needs.
