definately have backup gear, complete working cameras with lenses and
flashes and lots
of batteries and memory cards, ALL of which completely tested the night
before. That said,
never use any new gear or technique you havent done before unless you
are absolutely forced to for some reason.
Stick with the familiar techncally.

Is there any way you could get some practice?

Do you know anyone else getting married where you could volunteer as an
auxiliary photographer?

Do you know any pros where you can say that you'd like to practice
shooting, and he's welcome to the rights to anything decent you get? I
believe that a lot of pro photographers bring a backup in case the run
into a problem with their gear.
