Having seen the results from the current crop of high-MP FF bodies and also from the low-MP Nikon FF bodies, Pentax is going to need to seriously step up to match that sort of IQ from a sub-35mm sensor. Unless they're trying to match the resolution of the low-MP bodies and noise of the high-MP bodies which frankly the K20D already does.
Agreed. They aren't going to get the noise level of the D700 or the resolution of the D3x, or even close, with a crop sensor.
I think the 22-megapixel square sensor is either someone's fantasy or, more likely, a joke, but the way forward clearly involves bigger sensors.
And though there's a lot of self-ego-stroking and chest-thumping involved in the full-frame game, there *are* photographers who really do use the benefits possible. The night photography Dave Savage has done is fabulous and takes great advantage of the low-noise characteristics possible when you put 12 megapixels in a 24x36 format.
My goals tend toward higher ultimate resolution (for large prints). I think I may buy a Sony A900 before the year is out.
