Depending on the work you're doing, you may be able to get by with a
bridge camera.

Craigslist in this area frequently has K100Dsupers for under $350 with
kit lens. For me, shake reduction is a very compelling feature,
especially if you'll be hand holding. It's also about the same size as
the *ists, and the K2000. Another interesting feature of it is that it
has a weak anti-IR filter so I can have a lot of fun with IR filters
over my flashes.

It's my understanding that the *ists don't have shake reduction, and
if you'll be handholding in available light, in any sort of adverse
conditions, the extra stop of speed it can give you is worth a lot,
especially when you consider what it costs to bump the speed of a lens
by a stop.

With the price drops on the K20D, if there's any way you can come up
with that money, it's an amazing deal. I heard about someone who did
a $600 counter offer to the prodigital2000 buy it now price on ebay,
and won the auction a few weeks ago.

# I wonder if anyone here has an older one they'd be willing to part with for a
reasonable price?

It's very tempting to use that as an excuse to upgrade to a K20, but
there are things I really like about my K100 and even when I do
upgrade, I'll want to keep it.
