Frankly, Mark, I think you and Paul are living in a future that
will no
longer happen. Sure, we once thought it would happen, everything
digital,
everything technological everywhere.
CA is now officially in drought conditions. We may even end up with
water
mandatory rationing, right now it is voluntary.
I won't be surprised if all of the US ends up with voluntary ENERGY
rationing someday. Maybe even soon. I have six chargers already, we
can't keep going
around charging everything and having everything be electrical. The
costs are
too high -- both actual, environmental, limited unrenewable
resources for
producing power, and the power grids will not be able to cope. They
barely are
now. A storm a whole part of the country goes out.
You need to adjust your thinking to the rapidly changing energy
picture. And
you think WE are the luddites.
;-)
Unless we all go solar quickly enough.
As others have noted, far more energy is expended in the printing and
distribution of paper books than is used by electronic reading
devices. And how about all those trees? It's time to stop putting
everything on paper. I write for a living, and I will only print a
manuscript if someone demands it. All submissions are electronic. Some
work, like that which I do for amazon.com, is never printed on paper.
