That changes everything.

That's appalling. Losing one of the nicest features.

I'm ambivalent about it.

My L1 has a fixed LCD display. It shows me settings info unless I enter playback mode, autoreview, or Live View modes. You don't need the settings info all that much most of the time since the L1 has traditional, analog shutter speed and aperture controls ... you only need it to check ISO or set EV compensation setting, both of which are visible in the viewfinder anyway. Panasonic helpfully provided a "turn off LCD" mode in the display sequence so most of the time it's off on my camera (and it automatically turns off when I half press the shutter release so it's never glaring in my face. The fact that it's fixed never bothers me, even when I'm using Live View, and it provides lots of utility on the tripod in that use.

The G1 has an articulated LCD display. It allows more functionality for tripod use and more high and low level shooting options with the LCD used as a Live View. It also has the settings info on it, and they provided the blackout option as well. I often just close it to keep it completely out of sight. But the G1 does not have an analog shutter knob/aperture ring ... If I want to know what the camera is set to, I have to open the LCD and look at the info display or look in the viewfinder. I find myself opening and closing the LCD and pressing my way through the display modes to the info setting ... a little annoying as I tend to set up the camera before looking through the viewfinder.

If the R-D1x in use is similar to how the L1 works, it would be fine for me.

I feel the calling of Frankenstein..........

lol

I'm doing a little Frankensteining myself, making a special lens for the G1. When I've finished and it proves successful, I'll write about it. ];-)
