My favorite AA batteries are the Uniross Hybrios. Fry's carried them
for $10 per set of 4. They now have rayovac hybrids, but they just
don't seem to work as well.

The hybrid NiMH batteries (like Eneloop) have decent capacity and will
hold their charge for months rather than days.

A friend just bought an SB900 and the manual discusses different types
of batteries. Apparantly the NiMH batteries are only 1.2 volt, so
charging the flash may take a bit longer than with other batteries.

There ought to be some way of hooking up a lead acid gel cell to power
the flash. A "6V" would be at 6.6, rather than 4.8 for NiMH or 6.0 for
conventional AA.
