Karenina is excellent, and very wittily titled! I love the quality of the
black & white, and all that contrast.

The dunes picture exemplifies what I said the other day about 'abstract'
photographs. I'll bet a lot of people consider it a good example of
'abstract', but I'll bet everyone's first thought was 'what is it?'. But if
it had been a painting nobody what have asked themselves that.

Karenina is a good example of using the formal compositional properties of
the picture to reveal the subject matter.

By the way, what is it? Meringue? Snow? Cream? Ointment? I do like the
texture and shading.
