Probably Jamaica Plain or Brookline. But you never know.
As for jobs, now is most definitely not the best time to look for one.
That said, Boston and its surroundings are home to lots technology
companies, which might be a better bet than its 200+ colleges and
universities, seeing as their funding has been severely slashed.

I'm probably going to be going to school myself, either for a PhD or
another Master's degree.
