You guys wouldn't be talking about the 'NEW" anti-abrasion, easier to clean coatings (Armour All) by mistake, would you? In which case they are new and improved, and reflect light back at you in a different color than SMC lenses did 5 years ago.

I can´t see why colour couldn´t be handled differently with newer
lenses. Remember that these coatings consist of several layers which
have thickness depending on which wavelength they should reduce the
reflection. This requires fine tuning which has been developed and has
become easier since the 60s. The combination of layer thicknesses may
have been changed, and thus the colour of the transmitted light may
have been corrected as well.
