Thanks, Bob. It was close to a comedy routine getting this shot, though. Larry, Angel and I were taking it easy after a few hours in the sun, and almost ready to pack up and go home. Then this fellow starts calling. Of course I don't have the 300mm with me at the table, so I go back to the car to get it, along with the monopod and the 1.7xAF adapter. (The car is only 20 or 30 feet away, so fetching the gear doesn't take too long). I've just got everything put together, and am setting up to grab a shot, when the bird flies away. We decide to sit around and wait for a while to see if he will come back. Eventually, though (probably after 20-30 minutes) it's getting time for Angel to head back to his hotel (and for me to get home to take my wife out to the Star Trek movie), so we decide to give up for the day. I've just got everything broken down, and the lens back in it's carry case, when our friend decides to show up again. So I hastly put everything back together. I did remember to set the SR focal length to 500mm, but neglected to change the ISO back to 640 from 100 (and forgot that I've now set ISO up on the second dial in Av mode, so I left the camera in my usual hyper program mode). I grabbed a quick couple of shots hand-held before trying to get the camera on the monopod - one came out quite well, even though that was 1/50 of a second with a 500mm lens, but the pose and lighting aren't as good as the shot that I posted. Then the bird flew off again, but fortunately this time he stopped again just a few feet further away.
