I've been places, not to Australia, but it seems to be that kind of place, where that's a recipe for a long walk.

I just got emailed this photo:

Seeing it reminded me of an encounter with a couple of cute
American/Canadian backpackers at a roadhouse a month ago where they
had stopped to put $12 worth (!!!) of petrol in the van they were
driving.

Now considering that the last fuel stop was at least $25 previous &
the next one was a good 350km away & the high price of fuel, if left
me & my mate scratching our heads.

It depends on the amount of variation in the price of fuel.

If the next fuel station is much cheaper than the one you are
at, it makes sense to only buy enough fuel to be sure that you
will make it to the next one. Maybe, for them, that was $12.

The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or
drinking; he can ruin himself with gambling. If he does he is certainly a damn
fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a
free man any more than a dog.
