Interesting suggestion for technique, Paul. My thought was to selectively reduce colour saturation and/or possibly gamma (as in PS levels).
Btw, something a little peculiar for this image is that the reds and greens really pop when converting to sRGB. That's usually the last stage in my workflow and I usually don't think much about it. What I like about the blobs on the LH side, though, is that the stalk sort of emerge from them. I would like to process the image so that they remain a visual echo of the main flowers.
