It's been too long since I actually had fresh chicken, but I don't clearly remember there being much difference in taste. Not like freshwater fish, where the taste drops off quite obviously the longer it goes between pond/river and dining table. And the plucking is definitely the worst part of dealing with fresh chicken. I'd almost rather skin hogs.
