If you're using a Mac (which I guess you might be, since you mention
Apple), I highly recommend Scrivener:

Personally, I don't think there is a better writing tool out there. It
makes it incredibly easy to organaize all your material, manage the
entire manuscript, and then export in virtually any useful format.
