I'm surprised they don't all do that already. Power conditioning circuitry that has to be able to handle everything from the rated battery through some git with zinc rods and a lemon is tough to build and much more expensive than what you need for a known single battery type. Throw in the interesting liability status of the manufacturer if the device catches fire -- there generally isn't any way to tell who made the battery after the lithium fire, and juries are generally perfectly willing to believe someone saying "oh, no, that wasn't a third party cheap battery" even on very flimsy grounds -- and the hit to the revenue stream, and it really doesn't make a whole lot of sense of from the manufacturer's perspective to allow anything but their batteries. This can still go wrong (as Apple and Dell have discovered) but it's a whole lot better odds. -- Graydon -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
