I don’t know about Canada, but I think there are some free trade
laws in the USA which don’t allow mfgr.s to restrict seller's
pricing, even their "authorized" dealers.

Perhaps some restrictions from Pentax to encourage them to not 'kill'
the other/local retailers. (Yes I know, there aren't many N American
retailers except in Saskatchewan where there is a major profit center.)
