A detail I forgot to  mention is that there seems to be 'dark flare'
(for want of a better description) surrounding the branches, in
opposition to the bright flare that eats into the branches.  I don't
think that there really is such a thing as 'dark flare' and it's
either a ghost image from internal reflection, or an image processing
anomoly.
