For the record, it stems from the overhauled and very usable K-m (K2000) menu system, a camera which only had 5 point AF (wide or spot, no point control). In adopting the K-m's streamlined menu for the K-7, they had to appropriate a way to make the function keys do double duty without a Fn button.
Yes, I'll admit this is a change, but it's not "arbitrary". It's a logical decision from their end, so that the integrity of those new buttons is maintained with the menu system they've been developing for a while now, with lots of testing and satisfied users. I don't think it's fair to say that it will affect the "vast majority" of users negatively. If they release a firmware patch that let's you change the default status of the 4-way controller to AF point control, I'll be glad they catered to some of you. But I for one did not get flustered when I used it, I was able to pay attention to the viewfinder and casually prompt my thumb to press OK, and by changing the e-dials it didn't kybosh the AF control. It's really only when you change modes that you have to remember to press OK again, and I'm one of those people who settle in the mode I want before I change AF points, so no big deal for me. Really, from my perspective, it's no dealbreaker at all. Michael (ok1000) >From: "P. J.
