I'm most likely not the average user they're aiming for. And, therefore, I likely have /no/ idea how it will affect the average user. But my position is that if they (a) give me a selection/mode I can change and (b) I change it that (c) it jolly well better stay the way I set it until I positively indicate otherwise, such as by choosing a different mode. Arbitrary, unexpected, mode changes do no one any good, IMO.
