For whatever reasons, Pentax has had a big shake-up in Germany. I surmise that out of that comes a new importer/distributor, and new employees. For some reason, they are marking Pentax products up by untennable amounts. Then the stores they distribute to will mark them up again, or stop selling them.

The upside is they will learn that they cannot sell anything at those price points. People will start msuggling equipment in from nearby countries to avoid the prices. Less will be sold in Germany.

The downside is that they will have such low sales turnover that Pentax will drop them, and you won't be able to get any Pentax products there.

Complaining on PDML or anywhere online will do less good than a written letter sent to the distributor with a cc: to Pentax and your local store.

Those prices are outlandish! If they spread to the US, you'll see me holding up signs in the street in front of the last camera store in the Pacific Northwest! ,:-)

I checked myself by now, since both 2007 and 2008 are still on their site.

I found my 2005 list now as well:

I do not know about the prices before, but the prices remained all the same
for 2005/2007/2008.

Spreading 20 % across four years would be 4.7 %/year - still much more than
the local inflation, but not that exaggerated (2005: 1.5%, 2006: 1.6%,
2007:2.3%, 2008:2.6%, total since 2005: 6.6%)

Why in the world,
Would it excite me?
