FWIW, Ballheads may not be necessary. I have used monopods for years without them, even after I tried them. You can usually just tilt the whole rig for minor adjustments in pitch or roll. This is for camera in landscape mode of course. Portrait orientation will need at least a L- bracket for most cameras.
