Wimberly claims to use Delrin bearings in it's rotating parts.

The Manfrotto looks like the metal 'U' bracket just sits on top of the tripod/monopod head and friction is applied by cinching it tighter or looser where it mounts.

I'll have to rely on you owners for information, but in looking at the rig of the 393, methinks it's a lot of money ($200 US) for two 'U' brackets, a quick release, and three knobs.

Not that the Wimberly is a bargain, but it and the Jobu look to be well designed and well made.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Now you'll have to excuse me. I must get ready for the No Doubt concert I'll be heading out to in a couple of hours.

Don't know if the Wimberly is fluid damped. All I know is that the
knob works better :-)

Mine's still new and feels tight, but I may have a try at adjusting after it's worn in a little. Agreed the horizontal friction couldn't be done on the fly, is the Winberly fluid damped?
