Oh, I'm not so sure. I didn't bother to post - I was sure somebody would beat me to it, but the minute I saw the question the entire song ran through my head.
Admittedly I'm a year or two younger, but I did buy the original album, and made a point of buying the CD the day that it was released (which, in case you don't recall, was deliberately chosen because of the line "It was twenty years ago today, Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play").
