In addition to the ones you mentioned, there's stuff like shooting an azimuth and "marking" the farthest tree/rock/color spot you can see that's on the azimuth, go there and shoot again for the next leg. As opposed to trying to look over the compass all the time and stay "directly" on the heading. Especially when there's something in the way.
