If you shoot mostly manual exposure mode the metering doesn't matter. One thing to note is that if you shoot with K/M lenses and use stop down metering, the split image blackout at small apertures will cause overexposure if you don't adjust for it. That's probably the reason Pentax doenst make split image screens for their DSLRs. with normal open aperture metering, it doesn't cause a problem though.

I wouldn't be surprised if the K-7 and K10/20D screens were physically interchangeable The cheap Chinese split image screens aren't actually matched to the meters in the *ist-D/Ds or K10/20D, just surplus screens from some other manual focus SLR shaved down to fit so I don't think you'd be far off on exposure if you just substituted on of them in the K-7. I think it will be a while before Katz-eye supports the K-7 they probably want to make sure that enough will be sold to support the market for third party accessories. Ralf R.
