The new batteries are far superior to those used in the K10 and 20D.
The change was a positive step.

I suspect the latter. Just like the batteries.
Fits in nicely with the cut-throat rationalization measures, the
drastically reduced service quality, and the horrendous price
increases
we've seen from Pentax Europe over the last months.
Either that, or when they designed the new camera, they did everything
they could to reduce the size of the camera, even if it meant the NRE
of designing a new focusing screen.
