continuing my analogy, i love a lot of classic street photography; many of the best shots have technical "flaws" and in some notable cases the printing process was also seemingly haphazard; yet the blur, the grain, the blown highlights often add to the result, and i'm perfectly content with many "imperfect" photos; i'm even happy with old prints i find here and there with scuffs, smudges, scratches, dents and dings; that's one kind of photo i seek out

perfect fidelity is overrated; the recording process always leaves its mark, and those who strive to hide that mark represent only one branch of the fullness of the art form
