My policy has also changed since I went digital, expect that it's Lightroom that changed the policy for. I now allow myself to crop under 1 or 2 conditions: 1. I thought of it at the time of the exposure 2. The actual exposure doesn't match the framing (because the M8 rangefinder is optimised for only 3') When I do crop I only use established frame ratios, such as 1x1, 2x3, 1x2, 3x4, golden rectangle. It's irrational, but so is the golden mean.
