There was a thread about this story on Slashdot a couple of days ago and there 
were a LOT of stories similar to yours.  The computers of heavy smokers are 
pretty much unrepairable as the nasty stuff gets everywhere and any dust you 
clean off just builds up again.  Nevermind the health hazards of the goo itself.

I think the quoted reason (second hand smoke) is bogus, but the bigger question 
seems a valid one: does this constitute damage or should the product be 
expected to withstand it?

I'm a non-smoker but I'm just about smouldering from the heat of my macbook pro 
at the moment :/
