Apple just moved a whole lot farther into Bogusville for me.
Exactly. But you can be guaranteed that other companies are taking
interest in this nincompoopery. If no one does anything about this,
of if they sue and lose, Stevie and Co. win and everyone else starts
treating their customers the same way. Smoked in your car? Drive
train warranty is void. Was your camera beside you on the seat? You
don't have a warranty on that anymore, either. Based on the way
Shimano has treated me concerning some brand new, DOA Dura-Ace
shifters, and now this from Apple and all the other horror stories
about "voided" warranties, I have come to conclusion that it's "buyer
beware", even if you do have a warranty on a brand-new item. Buy your
stuff at Wal-Mart. Their return policy is still fairly liberal.
Wait till they start carrying it into other hazards.
Everyone knows car exhaust is harmful, so how long will it be until they
start testing for hydrocarbon residue as a means of voiding warranty?
On the subject of warranites, I had an interesting warranty fight with
Nissan a while back (You have an xterra right?) My Titan has an extra long
all inclusive warranty, so is still under the new vehivle warranty, even
though it is approaching middle age.
I took it in for service just befor the September trailer pull and was told
that it had a leaking rear axle seal and the total bill was going to be
close to 1K to fix it.
I asked why it wasn't covered under the warranty and was told that the seal
leak was caused by a plugged differential breather.
So I asked why the breather wasn't covered by warranty and was told that
Nissan considered it to be a "wear item".
At this point it got interesting.
I asked what the service interval was on the breather, since it wasn't
mentioned in the documentation, and since the truck was on Nissan's hoist a
couple of times a year for routine service, why wasn't it being changed out
as part of the servicing?
I was told that there was no service interval for it.
I asked how could they call it a wear item and not assign a werarout
interval to it?
This went back and forth through several layers of Nissan warranty people
until they finally saw the light of day and decided that they couldn't call
a part a wear item if they didn't also provide an advisory regarding how
long that item could be expected to last, and make changing it part of a
regular service program.
Anyway, any Nissan with the Dana rear axle should have it's diffy breather
checked very regularly to make sure it is working.
