I think it's a very good photo of a fleeting expression as it crosses the face of a woman who may, or may not, be hearing something that might be eliciting that expression. If I am reading the expression correctly. She may be thinking of a long lost kitty cat.

The photograph, to me, has little to do with the camera, the method, the grain, the darkness. It's the subject.

Any change from the original is unlikely to do much more than change the impression we (I) got from it, and is most likely to do damage to it.

I am inclined to believe the change in displayed background color did more to impress lightening than a change in brightness.

I much prefer the original. I think grain is a plus in a photo like this, and diminishing it has also reduced the image's sharpness. The brightness change is inconsequential here, and any more brightness might not be a plus. I think the deep tones are probably the way to go here. I'd still like to see some cropped off the left, but I'm not sure I'd prefer that. But it does seem like it would be more focused.

Nice work.

As per Paul's suggestion I brightened it just a bit and as per Brian's
suggestion I tried to get rid of a bit of the noise/grain. I'm still
not sure that I don't prefer the original, but I'd be interested to
know what you all think.
