Use Mail for most of my email, but not for reading this email forum. Here I use a gmail account ... it's almost all I use gmail for.
In Mail, I set the Inbox to "Organize By Thread" and sort in reverse order by time. That does almost all of what I want it to do with regards to navigating through a stream of messages in topical order. I do have an extensive set of filters to sort email into different mail boxes, flag some, present all flagged entries, etc. Since I get upwards of 300 email messages a day, I find these facilities essential and also find that Mail does handles it well.
