Hi all,
Since list members don't seem mind very much the OT subject of alcohol, I've
got one for you.
A hot local political issue has been new regulations regarding drinking
alcohol in outdoors public places in town (or "densely populated areas"). It
has now been prohibited.
Would be interested in (briefly) what regulations there are in your
countries and communities. Is drinking alcohol outdoors in public places
allowed, or not?
Basically, drinking in public is not quite against the law, but public
drunkenness is. It is a misdemeanor around here, but the law is
generally not enforced against discreet drinkers - i.e. don't display
the bottle or can in a provocative manner.
It's enforced on government property more than on private property, with
the exception that some government functions can serve wine with special
dispensation. It's against the law to have alcohol in most public parks.
And of course restaurants that serve alcohol AND have outdoor seating, a
la "sidewalk cafe" can serve alcohol in their outdoor seating are.
It's not so much what the law is, but how the law is enforced.
