As for the rest of your post, I don't have enough information to
comment on this case. Yes I've now read Bob's site, and even having
read that I'm not sufficiently informed to comment - I'd like to be
able to read "the other side". Having heard only Bob's side isn't
enough.

All I can say is that the jury heard both sides, saw the evidence and
convicted. The judge heard both sides, saw the evidence and upon the
jury's conviction, gave the sentence he did.

If Bob didn't do it, I hope he is able to appeal and either get an
acquittal (unlikely) or a new trial (likely the best he could hope
for). I hate to see any innocent person in jail...

Bob Shell was convicted of 8 charges; 7 felonies in addition to the involuntary manslaughter conviction. He faced a possible minimum of 6 years and maximum of 131 years.

He was sentenced to 8 years for the involuntary manslaughter charge.

He was convicted of three counts of attempted forcible sodomy and attempted animate object sexual penetration - essentially rape because the victim was unconscious. He received a total sentence of 15 years on the three charges.

He was convicted of four felony drug charges; two counts of distribution of morphine, one count of distribution of diazepam and one count of possession of morphine. He received a total sentence of 8 years 6 months on the drug charges.

Now whether you believe Bob Shell when he says he didn't give the girl morphine laced wine or not, the bottom line is Bob Shell provided that girl with the drugs that killed her. And went about his business with a callous disregard for her welfare.

That the jury convicted him of involuntary manslaughter says to me they accepted his claim that he had not drugged her drink. If they thought he did drug her drink, they would have convicted him of felony homicide. But they did believe he provided her with the drugs that killed her.

As far as the sexual assault charges go, his own photographs convicted him. His own testimony convicted him on the drug charges.

The one final fact I can't get past is she's dead and I see no evidence it concerns him beyond the inconvenience it's caused him as a consequence.

I don't care if he feels remorse, but he ought to have at least some iota of pity.
