When I first started teaching flying, one of the guys that hung out at the airport on the weekends was an ex-WWII pilot who had wanted to get into the conflict early. Don't remember if he flew for the RAF or the RCAF, but he had experience in both the Mozzie and the Spit. He liked the Spit but said the Mozzie was the most responsive, delightful airplane he ever flew.

Ah yes, the famous Mozzie, one of Canada's great contributions to
WWII.  I think about 1,100 of them were built at the Downsview plant.
