well that's a nice model of US "democracy" ...
but seriously, the explanation such a legislator would make is that
they've helped encourage people to buy locally, blunting the effect of
internet sales on "main street"; there are plenty of counterarguments,
but i think that's what they'd say
I doubt it's the taxes that are the problem for Amazon, it's the record
keeping. Taxes just get added on to the price, they don't pay them the
consumer pays them. Amazon doesn't give too figs about how much taxes
the consumer pays.
i think Amazon mostly doesn't like the fact that taxes will make its
prices less competitive
