For what it's worth, I once asked my Pentax service tech this as a
general question, and he suggested that the winders actually would
lengthen the life of the cameras.  He explained that the mechanical,
automatic winder stop function made sure the winder never strained
against a fully wound mechanism, while manual winding tends to do that
every time.  Still, he didn't seem to feel it made a big difference.
