Thanks Ecke, I'll bear the tripod advice in mind, I hadn't really got to the 
stage of wondering about the tripod on the bike, it just never occured to me.

Dunno about the Tamrac as I haven't tried it but the outer cover of
the LowePro DryZone 200 tends to balloon at higher speeds so it was no
joy to ride with. The tripod fitting of the DryZones is IMHO superior
to the Summit's as the tripod is attached farther down and there is
less risk of neck injury in a crash situation. Personally, I would not
carry the tripod while riding but attach it to the frame somewhere or
put it in a waterproof roller bag to go across the bike atop the
panniers/rack. For offbike, either attachment is fine. There is also
the ortlieb backpacks but they have no dedicated photo interior.
