Yes, but generally you'll hear people referring to them just as pommes, and the context tells you whether they mean apples or potatoes. So, pommes frites, pommes dauphinoises, pommes vapeur etc. all refer to potato dishes. If you ordered pommes dauphinoises and were served with apples cooked in garlic, butter and cream to go with your grilled lamb you'd probably be a bit put out.
