Actually, I just looked that out of 30 shots I made with the combination of D700 + 24-70 at the last swing event (not quite blues dance, but a very similar setting), 9 or 10 were at 24 mm focal length setting. I found that at blues and swing dance events, with the 17-70 on K-7, (and earlier 18-250 on istDS) I tend to use the range of 17-35 mm (18-35 mm) at least half of the time, of which a 17(18)-20 is used about quarter of the time. I tend to use the wide end of the range more for the social dance shots, while the longer end is used for portraits and for performance/competition shots. So, 24/1.4 on a FF would be very reasonable (if not perfect) for blues dances (especially the small ones, - held in small rooms.
