You certainly don't know.  That's about the only accurate part of your post.

I'm sure the people who get beaten at Le Mans by something that's closer
to the showroom car than anything by Porsche, BMW, etc. think that the
Corvette is a true sports car.

Yes, the C5 is larger; that's the first impression I got when I took
a look at one a few years ago.  But it's still insanely over-powered,
and it has performance and handling that would embarrass your choice.
