I think that you'll find that todays Vette's handily out accelerate
the ones of yore.
How much time have you spent on the track in Corvettes of various
vintages? I got to drive a student's C5 at Sears Point a while back,
and they are frighteningly competent cars. I've also ridden around
the track in several vettes that were driven by students, which can be
an entirely different flavor of exciting.
From 68 on the 'vette has been a bloated POS that might as well have
been engineered by MicroSoft. I liked the Corvette when it was a
relatively small, nimble, and yes insanely over-powered sports car, but
have no use for what it's become.
I don't know what it is now, but it ain't a sports car.
I don't care how much horsepower they cram under the hood or what exotic
material they make the brakes out of ... it's still trying to cram 10
gallons of manure into a 5 gallon bucket.
Or, perhaps more accurately, it's got all the class of 5 gallons of
manure in a 55 gallon drum.
