Which basically leaves us with Kodak, who only makes a CCD, not CMOS,
FF sensor. While I'm sure Pentax could do a better job with high ISO
than Leica has with the M9, I'd still much rather prefer a Sony
sensor. And why did you say Pentax couldn't rely on Sony for sensors?
The K100D and K10D both featured Sony sensors and provided (and still
provide in my house) outstanding IQ. Pentax have done fantastically
with Sony sensors, and I wish they'd never gone to Samsung.

Cheers,

Issues I'm aware of:

1. Quality - Sony had some quality issues with some of their sensors, leading to a massive recall affecting models from several brands ... I think Pentax may have had several p&s models that were affected.

2. Supply - Sony didn't have the manufacturing capacity to meet demand ... or so they claimed. This was, I believe, the original impetus behind the Samsung deal; Sony couldn't guarantee delivery in quantities Pentax desired.

3. Business Practices - There are some indications that Sony may have manipulated #2 to disadvantage competitors, i.e. having a plentiful supply for their own use, while delaying supplies to competitors who relied on Sony sensors.

There may be others.
