My LXen are RGB coded; the oldest (per the body number) has a small Red dot
on the back near the viewfinder, the next oldest has a small Green dot, and
the newest has a small Blue dot. My 2 645's are similarly coded (R & G; no B
in the foreseeable future.) Only one MZ-S so no need for coding. I always
carry 2 or 3 Sharpie markers with me and code the film canister (R, G, or B
or MZ, plus sequence number for the day) when I remove film from the camera.
Sometimes I forget and later have to try and recollect which lenses were
used on which camera . . . Later, back at "basecamp" (be that home, a hotel,
or a tent) I add the date or, if traveling, just put all from that day in a
ziploc and mark the bag with any pertinent info. All of this carries
forward to eventual contact sheets or index prints or, for slides, the
margins of the plastic sleeves I store them in.
