Well, I've been open to purchasing a new Kx. But lately I've been thinking something even less expensive, even very inexpensive, the best thing I could get cheaply to experiment with to see whether photography, especially digital, is going to be the thing for me it sometimes seems like it is. There's a *ist DS with lens on eBay right now with an opening price of $250, two days to go, and no bids. I wouldn't want to go much more than that for that setup. Sometimes I think, being poor, should I invest time, money, and effort in photography -- I've had enough experience to know that it has an effect on me; I start seeing things differently; I pay attention to things I wouldn't even even have noticed otherwise; I'm more engaged, in more than one respect -- or should I save the money and really buckle down to getting serious about learning to play the classical guitar I've been diddling around with for so long. Another factor is that I'm an old man. Never said that before, but it's true. >> From a practical perspective, the older models will be slower to > shoot and have smaller screens on the back. I figured I could live with the small screen. Probably knew back there somewhere about the slower shooting, but it hadn't occurred to me. Don't know if it would be a problem for the kind of experimenting I imagine myself doing. A lot what interests me would involve still shots. I'm involved with recreational sports for kids, and could see myself shooting some action. But even six or seven shots would be more than I could get off with my film camera. I appreciate the suggestion of things to think about.
