I quite like the look and feel of the iPad. But at this point, and into the
future as far as I can see, it will not replace my laptop and so it would be an
extra piece of gear to carry on my travels, not an alternative.
With my laptop on my travels I:
- download my photos at the end of the day. Primary to the internal HD,
backup to an external portable HD.
- Do a quick pass through the day's results in Lightroom, with
preliminary ratings. Minor editing on particular shots to post on my blog or
send to friends/relatives.
- Slide show for me and my wife.
When I get home, I transfer the files and associated ratings and edits into my
home system of HDs, my main LR library, etc. All of my preliminary work is
preserved.
If I had an iPad with current software, I would need to make major adjustments
to my workflow. And would probably wind up being able to do little more than
store-and-review while on the road. I would love to hear how the capabilities
of the iPad could provide a workable alternative workflow! But I am skeptical.
