ZoneAlarm is the Windows equivalent. Very, very good and it's
freeware. You can also block egress with a hosts file. *Nothing* on my computer is allowed to phone home unless it's
absolutely necessary for the program to function *and* I give explicit
permission.

I probably need to update my hosts file.

Does anyone know if ZoneAlarm plays nice with AVG Free anti-virus software?

I used ZoneAlarm several years ago on a different computer and liked it enough to buy the upgrade from the free version, but it didn't work well with Semantec Antivirus (mandated by DoD at a time when what the DoD wanted still mattered to me)

... seemed to work fine with Norton Antivirus, but when "Norton" became "Semantec", they really screwed things up.

Understand that was true with a lot of security software people were using.
